Where does the name Fifth Level come from?
In the late 90s I read the award winning book ‘Vurt’ by Jeff Noon. A brilliant, cyber-punk novel of future Manchester where ‘Fifth Level beings’ were the most enlightened. I loved the story and took many references from it and bought the .com

So what does Fifth Level actually mean?
I realised that the author was referring to Chakra’s – metaphysical points in the human body. The Fifth Level Chakra being the centre of creativity and communication.

Why a feather in your logo?
In the book, Vurt feathers hold dreams, portals to a shared alternate reality. The logo is actually a ‘quill’ – a writing implement crafted from a feather which, metaphorically, Creatives use to visualise.

Anything else about the logo?
The Fifth Level Chakra is coloured blue or turquoise and the quill ‘dotting the i’ in the logo’s ‘fi’ tittle ligature suggests attention to detail.

Why an exotic beach background?
I’d like to go there, wouldn’t you? I believe if we visualise our goals they are more likely to materialise. I’m drawn towards turquoise waters!

Fifth Level have proved to be a business we can trust to be innovative, creative and reliable. Congratulations to Dave on your ten years of great service.
Brian Reay, Property Director,
Pochin plc

Dave first approached us around the time he started his business and I recall being impressed that he had worked with other surveyors. Over the years, Dave has been our first port of call for branding and corporate identity and has been an invaluable asset to our marketing initiatives – in particular when we’ve had a deadline to get something ready.
Paul Giness, Director,
The Beattie Partnership

Fifth Level Design has been an integral part of XL’s strategic branding from a UK based Consultancy 10 years ago to now being recognised as a global partner to Xerox, operating in over 40 countries. Our branding has reflected our identity, direction, growth and creativity within a competitive market place and David Spence is highly valued as the creative force behind the branding. Fifth Level Design will and have always been my first point of call with any design project and he will continued to be tasked with the development of XL’s corporate identity.
Ian Swarbrick, Managing Director, XL MEA FZ-LLC

An excellent creative director who I've worked with many times and with several different companies. Trustworthy, creative and reliable a difficult combination to find in a good designer. Happy working with both print and new media/web.
Neil Kerfoot, CEO,
Village by Village
